Abstract
A simple relation shown by White to exist between plane shear and compressional elastic waves undergoing mode conversion when normally incident upon an empty or fluid-filled cylindrical scatterer is extended to include the case of a solid scatterer. The obstacle is assumed to be an infinitely long cylinder embedded in an infinite isotropic solid medium. A sign error in White's result is corrected.
