Abstract

AbstractTravel time variability has a great impact on travel behavior. In this paper, we conduct a survey which shows that travel time variability is a vital element of mode choice in ride-sourcing services. According to the survey results, we address some key factors that influence travelers’ mode choices, including travel time, travel time variability, monetary cost and comfort. Then we propose a theoretical framework to investigate the mode choice behavior under travel time variability. In addition, the pricing strategy of the ride-sourcing company is formulated as an optimization problem. Our study shows that considering the impact of travel time variability is of vital importance both in modeling the travel behavior of travelers and the pricing strategy of the ride-sourcing market.KeywordsRide-sourcingTravel time variabilityMode choice
