Abstract

A practically convenient method for applying the higher order perturbation theory has been developed. The method “modal perturbation method” is a perturbation method based on the technique of modal expansion. The first advantage of the present method is that the calculation of the higher order terms is much simpler in comparison with the standard higher order perturbation method. The procedure for solving the diffusion equation by the new method is described, and an analytical calculation is performed on the higher modes of a bare reactor, followed by examples of practical applications of the method.
