Abstract

Washington Elementary is in need of a School Improvement Plan (SIP), raising the State testing twenty percent from a “D” to “C” status. There are a number of factors for the principal to consider: 1.Each stakeholder will be affected by this change: students, teachers, parents, Board members, administration, and the community. 2. The rural community has more than 60% Hispanic population, those speaking Spanish as their first language: parents do not feel connected to staff and administration. 3. There needs to be an integration of the test format to Curriculum Based Measurement. 4. Teachers are burned-out enduring administrative past practice misusing professional development and contractual abuse of calling frequent meetings. Still, faculty needs professional development but should be sent off-campus for new ideas. They should be offered rewards for completion of this training as well. 5. Students and teachers need motivation, having a common objective toward the betterment of morale, and be rewarded for obtaining the increased 20% test scores.
