Abstract

The mobility of helium ions in neon gas has been computed using an interaction potential inferred from spectroscopic data and the results are compared to values obtained by a drift-tube experiment. The computed values accurately reproduce the dependence of the mobility on E/n0 at two temperatures, 77 and 300 K, thus supporting the potentials inferred from molecular spectroscopy.
