Abstract

The aim of this investigation was to elucidate the mobility, the availability and the soil to plant transfer of heavy metals in dump soils of the former uranium mining area in Thuringia (Germany). The investigation refers to the elements U, As, Cd, Co, Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb and Zn. For this purpose, soil and plant samples were collected from 34 plots on two different dumps. Pseudo-total contents and mobile portions were investigated in all soil samples. In six selected soil profiles every horizon was analysed by means of a sequential extraction procedure.
