Abstract

This paper analyses sources and offers a conjectural reconstruction of the ornamenta ecclesiae presentat the Royal Chapel in Seville’s first (mudejar) cathedral. It studies specifically the tabernacles provided forthe statue of Our Lady of Monarchs (Virgen de los Reyes) and the simulacrum sedilia -ceremonial triple chairintendedfor monarchs Ferdinand III, Beatrice of Suabia and Alphonso X. The liturgical silverware attributedto silversmith Pedro de Toledo (circa 1279), together with several remaining pieces of medieval furniture, such as a capital embedded in the canopy of Luis Ortiz de Vargas’s baroque reredos, are also examined.
