Abstract

Nowadays, the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) deployment for diverse applications become a reality. Mobile target tracking (MTT) using UAVs is among the widespread UAVs applications. Accordingly, much recent research approaches considering UAV platforms for MTT have been developed. In this article, a survey of the literature of the past five years involving MTT algorithms, approaches, and solutions running through UAVs networks is performed. A taxonomy that classifies the studied approaches into three categories is provided. In addition, a comparison between the most common MTT algorithms highlighting the advantages and the limitations of the studied mechanisms are proposed. Furthermore, this article also provides future research directions and open issues related to MTT.
