Abstract

The article describes a comprehensive system of mobile sensor units for air pollution measuring in urban areas. The system uses a mobile unit containing small electrochemical sensors or photoionization detector and a Bluetooth Low Energy communication module. The Pollution Gathering application was developed for processing data received from the unit on an Android Smartphone. It uses smartphone's data connectivity to send the data to a server. The server stores the data in environmental database and provides API interface used by WWW presentation. The professional users, public authorities and citizens can view real-time situation on a map background. Mobile sensor units provide small, low cost means of air quality tracking. Pedestrians and cyclists are intended to use the application. The mobile sensor network allows monitoring a large area along with the acquisition of detailed data.
