Abstract

The proliferation of the mobile phone technology in Kenya and in general Sub Saharan Africa did open new possibilities to enhance the quality of life for the masses. Mobile phones helped to connect people at all levels of the society; urban, rural, rich, poor etc. The benefits accruing from this technology became of great value across the divide and was used for social networking, information sourcing, connectivity, mobile banking and other types of uses associated with it. The effects were particularly fundamental to the poor populations and remote areas which had suffered from technological exclusion and where mobile phones came in to reduce communication costs and enable people to obtain information quickly and cheaply. This study examines the mobile banking as an innovative dynamic within the mobile telephony sector in Kenya.
