Abstract

Post-operative complications such as fistulas & anastomotic leaks are associated with high morbidity & mortality as well as prolonged hospitalization. Current management strategies of wait & watch or rescue surgery are less than 50% effective at a 30-day follow up. In our recent clinical trial, we noted that stromal cells impregnated biomatrix resolved 80% of linear fistulas associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The aim of this study was to assess the safety & efficacy of acellular biomatrix in the management of post-surgical fistulas & anastomotic leaks.
