Abstract

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) for unresectable extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma has been reported as the palliative method of choice regarding the increase of survival. PDT is combined with plastic stent insertion through malignant stenotic area to augment biliary decompression effect. However, many concerns have been raised whether prolonged survival is achieved by PDT itself or repeated ERCP sessions with stent exchange. The aim of this prospectively conducted study was to endoscopically evaluate PDT efficacy with the use of SpyGlass cholangioscopy and determine pre and post PDT endoluminal disease mapping.Patients and Methods: During one year study, 5 patients with unresectable extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma underwent PDT.
