Abstract

Submucosal (SM) injection with viscous solution produces a long-lasting SM cushion and it is recommended for esophageal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). A solution with 0.4% sodium hyaluronate (SH) named MucoUp® has been approved for SM injection and Japanese experts extensively use it. However this solution is expensive and unavailable outside Japan. Recently there has been an increased interest in the development of solutions to facilitate ESD. For the past 10 years we have used a low-cost readily available sterile tears drops solution composed of 0.4% SH for ESD. The aim of this study is to present the clinical outcome with the off label use of SH for SM injection in esophageal ESD.
