Abstract

Informed consent (IC) is an essential part of high-quality care with medical-legal ramifications. IC requires a documented discussion between the provider and patient. IC necessitates: review of the procedure, indications, expected outcomes, and alternative procedures. Traditional IC is not standardized allowing for variability which may affect patient comprehension. This study aims to standardize IC for colonoscopy to see if variability can be reduced. We hypothesize that the addition of a video tool will provide all patients with the same information, improve retention of information, improve patient satisfaction, and will not impair procedural workflow.
