Abstract

The hybrid matched-filter (HMF) receiver for transmitted reference (TR) ultra wideband (UWB) systems suffers substantial performance degradation in presence of noise and multi-access interference (MAI). In this paper, we present multiuser detection (MUD) techniques for the HMF-TR UWB receiver, derived by introducing a multiuser equivalent system model. We also show a modified pre-combining minimum mean-square error (MMSE) solution for the HMF TR UWB receiver that is novel, due to the non-linear behavior of the autocorrelation operation. The proposed detectors are shown to yield improved performance over multi-channel autocorrelation receiver (MC- AcR) TR UWB receivers.
