Abstract

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play a crucial role in a wide range of diseases including diabetes mellitus, arthritis and cancer, explaining the growing demand for highly specific MMP inhibitors. So far however, efficient technics to obtain MMPs from human cells in sufficient purity and quantity are still missing. We thus established an efficient bioassay based on the expression of human MMP-2 and MMP-9 on the yeast cell surface allowing high-throughput screening of potential MMP-inhibitors.
