Abstract

The meshless method based on the MLS (Moving Least Square) is applied on the calculation of elastic wave band structures of the phononic crystal. Comparing with the finite element method, the domain of interest is scattered by a set of nodes instead of the complex mesh. So, it is computationally easy to add or remove points from a pre-existing set of nodes. In this paper, we apply the meshless method in the computation of the elastic wave band gap of one dimensional phononic crystal. By comparing our results obtained from the meshless method with the LM (Lumped Mass) method, it is found that two results are basically agreement. Thus, the meshless method is a promising tool for computing phononic band gaps. But, some details such as choosing a shapefunction should be considered more deeply.
