Abstract

Fast and accurate rotor angle stability assessment is of great significance for the safety of the power system. This paper presents a novel online rotor angle stability assessment approach for the power system based on Maximum Lyapunov Exponent (MLE). First, the Jacobian algorithm on the basis of QR decomposition is deduced to accurately calculate the MLE of multi-machine power system without using the rotor angle information. Next, the mapping relationship between phase trajectory motion trend and MLE curve is established, and stability criteria on the basis of MLE are proposed to determine the rotor angle stability of the disturbed power system. At last, the IEEE 39-bus power system is employed as test power system to validate the effectiveness and robustness and of the proposed approach.
