Abstract

Melanchton, an ecumenical moralist. Recent research on Melanchton has made it possible to assess the importance of his personality and his part in the beginnings of the Reformation. In particular, his ethical teaching, while it remains faithful to the main body of Luther's thougt, made use of the resources of the aristotelian code (especially as concerns natural law), which is traditional in Catholicism. In this respect his effort of conciliation can still serve as a model for practical ecumenism.
