Abstract

AbstractThe previously proposed Merrifield‐type model of the coupling between neutral and ionic excited states of a linear crystal of a weak AD‐type donor‐acceptor complex is generalized for ADA‐type complexes. It is demonstrated that CT interactions involving the locally excited Frenkel states can be adequately described in terms of a Hamiltonian entirely analogous to that used for AD‐type complexes but with renormalized parameters. The spectrum of ADA‐type complexes is however richer due to the appearance of a new system of absorption bands due to the (–) CT states which do not couple with the Frenkel states.
