Abstract
AbstractThis article expands the discussion of Larry Smith's theory of intelligibility to explore multilingual language use with reference to code‐mixing in the Indian context. Our findings suggest that the understanding of intelligibility in the context of bilingual/multilingual language mixing calls for a rich sociolinguistic model that is socially realistic and culturally rooted.
