Abstract

Axial dispersion coefficients are necessary for flotation column rate predictions. The published data and existing correlations for counter-current bubble and flotation columns are reviewed. The data are used to derive a simple correlation, in terms of the column diameter d C and the superficial gas velocity u G : D=(9.3 d c−30.1)u G0.603 which is able to estimate satisfactorily the axial dispersion coefficient for a wide range of column diameters, but for a limited superficial liquid velocity range. The effect of other parameters, notably the superficial liquid velocity and the column height, are discussed.
