Abstract
It is difficult to mix different kinds of granular materials. The so-called Brazil nut effect is a well-known phenomenon showing the segregation of granular materials with different density or size. Since the motion of granular materials depends on a lot of parameters such as the diameter, density, elastic coefficient, frictional coefficient, and so on, the physics of granular materials is complicated. In this study, we numerically simulate the mixing of two kinds of spherical particles with different diameters confined in a precessing cylindrical container. We change the angular velocity of the spinning container and the angle between the spin and precession axis to evaluate how they affect the mixing of the particles.
