Abstract

Mixed methods in Ph.D. research is applicable when a researcher wants to implement a mixture of both qualitative and quantitative studies. This methodology is rather contemporary, while demanding much time as both sides of the study must be accomplished thoroughly. Trochim and Donnelly (2008) use the paradigm of conducting a case study with an experimental design project. One graph used to assess Mixed Methods research is the previously aforementioned graph, Patton’s Integrated Model of Measurement (2002), akin to the question of why undergraduate students stopped a hypothetical civic engagement volunteer project. This paper will assess this need, while justifying if Mixed Methods would be a proper solution to that inquiry of civic engagement volunteer projects.
