Abstract

Four novel complexes of vanadium have been isolated from aqueous solutions containing vanadate, peroxide and the thiouracils. The complexes have been characterized and formulated as [VO(O2)(HL)] and K[VO(O2)(L)] (H2L = 2-thiouracil or 6-methyl-2-thiouracil) on the basis of their elemental analyses, conductances, TGA studies, cyclic voltammograms, and 1R, electronic and NMR spectra. The IR spectra indicate coordination through N(3) and the S atoms of the thiouracils, which is further confirmed by the, 13C NMR spectra of the complexes. The complexes are less stable with respect to reduction than other VO2 + complexes as revealed from the cyclic voltammetry studies.
