Abstract

ABSTRACT Mixed ligand chelate extraction of lanthanides (La, Pr, Eu, Yb) into carbon tetrachloride with 2-(2-pyridylazo)-4-nonylphenol (PANP) alone or combined with TOPO is studied. In the absence of TOPO, the extracted species obtained are Ln (PANP) 3or, in the presence of TOPO, Ln(Cl)2(PANP)(TOPO) 3. The separation factors for the heavier rare-earth elements found with PANP system are among the highest observed to date.
