Abstract

The paper is concerned with the shape optimal design of a large displacement contact problem. Contact with the prescribed friction is assumed. The optimal design problem consists of finding the domain boundary in the contact zone to minimize the contact stress. The mixed finite element method is used to discretize this optimization problem. The necessary optimality condition is formulated. The augmented Lagrangian approach is used to solve numerically the state system. The conjugate gradient method with projection is used as an optimization method. Numerical examples are provided.
