Abstract
This paper reports on the observation of a teenage mother of black British identity and her baby, living with her parents in a cosmopolitan city in England. It focuses on the way in which this young mother managed the developmental tasks of adolescence, alongside the infantile developmental tasks of her baby. The issue of facing the more depressive aspects of her situation were particularly significant.
