Abstract

The paramagnetic dirhenium(II,III) complex [1,3,6,8-Re 2Cl 4(PMe 3) 4]Cl ( 1) was found to be a kinetic product in the reaction of [Re 2Cl 8] 2− with an excess of PMe 3 in refluxing propanol. The one-electron reduction of 1 is the last, rate-determining step in the overall reaction to give the final, thermodynamic dirhenium (II,III) product, 1,3,6,8-Re 2Cl 4(PMe 3) 4.
