Abstract

AbstractMix design, which means selecting the appropriate proportion of different components in concrete materials, is the initially important step to access the optimal performance of cement and concrete materials. Although several standards or specifications on the mix design have been proposed to develop the concrete with better properties to meet the demand of practical application as well as cost-effective, there still exist gaps of research in the area of concrete with manufactured sand. This chapter focuses on the mix design of concrete with manufactured sand. General requirements of raw materials including cement, mineral admixtures, manufactured sand, coarse aggregate, chemical admixtures, etc., have been discussed. Besides, the mix proportion methods of high-performance concrete and self-compacting concrete (SCC) are also determined in terms of workability, mechanical strength, and durability. Moreover, the surplus coefficient of mortar and spherical similarity of aggregate is also considered for the mix proportion design of concrete with manufactured sand. The optimization technology of mix design of concrete with manufactured sand has been described and obtained in this chapter.
