Abstract

SUMMARY The cases of 2 children with severe mitral insufficiency have been presented with emphasis on the pathologic physiology and surgical treatment. The Starr-Edwards prosthesis was used to totally replace the diseased mitral valve in each instance. In selected cases, the use of prosthetic valves is indicated for the treatment of severe mitral valvular disease in children.
