Abstract

Mini‐AbstractWe describe a patient with mitral flexible annuloplasty band displacement. The diagnosis was made performing a comprehensive echocardiographic assessment. Compared with two‐dimensional echocardiography, real time three‐dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (3D‐TEE) provided additional information and diagnostic utility, allowing an accurate evaluation of the underlying pathology. Using 3D‐TEE, we were able to exactly define the site, size, and shape of the detachment and to detect the precise anatomical relation existing between the displaced band and the surrounding cardiac structures. Therefore, real time 3D‐TEE can be considered of great assistance to the cardiac surgeon, being an effective tool in planning appropriate intervention.
