Abstract

Several DNA-dependent DNA polymerases were extracted and purified from uredospores of the bean rust fungus after germination for 4 h on water. Under such conditions, only simple germ tubes developed, and nuclear division did not occur. The mitochondrial enzyme from germinated spores had a molecular weight of 150,000 but was resolved into two fractions by isoelectric focusing: a more abundant fraction at pH 5.4 and a minor protein at pH 6.3. These enzymes were inhibited by N-ethylmaleimide (NEM).
