Abstract

Schizophrenia is a complex disorder with both clinical and biological heterogeneity, and to-date, effective diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies are largely absent. Mitochondria play a crucial role in the brain suggesting that genetic variants in this system may contribute to the etiology of mental illnesses. Here, we aim to identify novel mitochondrial variants associated with schizophrenia using a subset of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (PGC) schizophrenia samples.
