Abstract
The International Snakebite Awareness Day has taken place annually on Sept 19 since 2018. Snakebites kill an estimated 137 880 people each year and three times as many survivors live with life-changing disabilities.1 The high burden of snakebite in south and southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America came to global attention in 2017 when WHO recognised snakebite envenoming as a neglected tropical disease (NTD).2 One key issue is the development, production, and distribution of antivenoms. Since 2018, there has been some increased funding for research and development of antivenoms and other therapies.
