Abstract
The first social organization to be introduced from abroad to this Bolivian Amazonian territory, today in the region of the Vicariate of Reyes, was the Reduction. After 1767 came the time of administrators and priests from Santa Cruz. The civil society has kept some aspects of the former economic system based on reciprocity and redistribution. But in reality, the economic conquest of these territories produced, as a consequence, domination and unimaginable suffering for the Amerindians. Since 1942, the Redemptorists have led a pastoral work in this area called either “paradise” or “green hell” depending on who is speaking about it. The author describes the evangelization modalities and recent social changes induced by diverse migrations. He analyses the monetary problems and different concepts of reciprocity exchange in an economic context moving towards capitalism.
