Abstract

A theological account of the nature and function of Scripture in the church is properly situated within the larger context of the missio Dei, God's merciful self-communication to the world in Jesus Christ through the power of the Spirit. Exegetical soundings in 2 Corinthians, Philippians, 1 Peter, and 1 John illustrate the fruitfulness of an “apostolic hermeneutic” that attends to the ways in which these texts address and form the church as the community of the reconciled who are called into fellowship with the triune God as active participants in God's own work of reconciliation.
