Abstract

The present study aims to find out the absenteeism rate of male and female employees and the personality traits (neuroticism and extraversion) and job satisfaction of low (10 males and 10 females) and high (10 males and 10 females) absentees. The absenteeism rate of male (N=20) and female (N=20) employees was obtained from attendance record of immediate past year. Results indicated a significant difference on neuroticism, extraversion and job satisfaction of low and high absentees. The mean score showed that high absentees have low level of job satisfaction as compared to those of low absentees. Low absentees were low on neuroticism and extraversion as compared to high absentees.Qualitative inquiry revealed the role of socio-psychological and cultural factors in the process of absenteeism. Exploration of causes of absenteeism has implications for training and development in higher education system.
