Abstract

The shaping of a general geography of leisure. — The starting point is the idea that the necessary consideration of new forms of recreation, and the infrastructures which are associated with them, makes it necessary to extend Geography of tourism to a Geography of leisure. It is in starting with the concept of Social Geography that a Geography of leisure has developed, just as has been highlighted the vital and essential function which these leisure activities represent, and also the role which they play in the organization of social space. There results a triple articulation, based on spatio-temporal criteria, leisure in the immediate vicinity of the home, leisure in the framework of nearby space for recreation and in the space of a large radius of action. The conclusion is devoted to some aspects of applied geography.
