Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Heterophilic antibodies (HABs) can influence sandwich ELISAs resulting in false positive bHCG results. Although HABs are a frequently reported cause of misdiagnosed gestational trophoblastic disease, we found no reports in the literature of falsely diagnosed ectopic pregnancies. Here we describe two patients with HABs who were incorrectly diagnosed and treated for ectopic pregnancies.
