Abstract

The miscibility and phase behavfiour in 50:50 wt % blends of chlorinated PVC (CPVC) and poly(acrylonitrile-co-butadiene) (AN-BT) were studied. The miscibility-immiscibility boundary at 150°C was determined. It was found that the extent of miscibility of this system becomes larger with increasing chlorine content of CPVC, compared to that of the PVC/(AN-BT) system. By assuming a random copolymer structure and applying the first-order mean field theory to the results , the respective segmental interaction parameters were determined. The theoretical phase boundary is consistent with experimental data.
