Abstract

The T- x sections Ag 2Te-IVbTe of the ternary systems Ag-IVb-Te have been investigated by differential thermal analysis, X-ray and metallographie methods. The mixtures of Ag 2Te with PbTe and SnTe are quasibinary systems of a simple eutectic type. Due to the incongruently melting ternary Ag 8GeTe 6 the system Ag 2Te-GeTe has a crystallization behaviour of ternary character. The phase equilibria of the ternary Ag-Ge-Te are given at room temperature. The enthalpies of mixing in the liquid state have been determined by direct reaction calorimetry. A comparison of these data with data calculated from the constituent binaries by the models used for the calculation of thermodynamic data in ternary metallic systems reveals deviations which are explained by additional coulombic interactions in the ternary systems.
