Abstract

Since the precursory notes for the account of the genus in the 'Flora of Tropical East Africa' were prepared, good material of both a new species and a new subspecies have been collected from the drier parts of eastern Kenya, following the opening up of the Tsavo National Park East. At the same time as validating names for these, I have taken the opportunity of describing four other species from central and southern Tanzania known only from single gatherings. I had intended to include these in the Flora as imperfectly known species, but as I have no real doubts as to their distinctness and as several duplicates are preserved in other herbaria, I now think it more convenient to provide them with names. I also wish to make two corrections to the check-list of African species published in Kew Bull. 22: 189-201 (1968) and reconsider the delimitation of C. uncinella Lam.
