Abstract

Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is associated with acute and chronic infections of the liver and can lead to advanced liver diseases like cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Information about microRNA (miRNA) mediated regulation of viral infections is just emerging. During HBV infection, perturbations of cell cycle regulating miRNA expression might have significant correlation with development with HCC.
