Abstract

A dispersed spore assemblage is identified from the Upper Devonian Greenland Gap Group along the Allegheny Front in Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. Two new species of miospores, Anapiculatisporites crassisetus and Samarisporites grossicorrugatus are described; and two new combinations, Punctatisporites calamites (Naumova) nov. comb. and Verrucosisporites rarituberculatus (Naumova) nov. comb. are proposed. The composition of the assemblages is discussed, and the assemblage is compared with those previously described from Middle and Upper Devonian sediments. The palynomorph assemblage supports published stratigraphic and paleontologic data used in assigning a Frasnian age to the Greenland Gap Group.
