Abstract
This paper deals with various minute vibrations in surface grinding, which produce various undesirable chatter marks on the ground surfaces. From the frequency analysis of the minute vibrations during grinding, it has been found that the vibration due to the unbalance of the grinding wheel spindle, the tuning-fork mode vibration of the machine excited by the intermittent contacts of the grinding wheel and the workpiece, the rocking mode vibration of the machine excited by the shock of the work table reversals and the hydraulic oil pressure pulsation produced by the vane pump are the main causes of the minute vibrations. It has been also found that the In-Situ wheel balancing, the wheel cover type dynamic dampers, the steady installation of the machine and the inline type hydraulic accumulators are effective in suppressing these minute vibrations and also the chatter marks produced by these vibrations.
