Abstract
The U.S. Geological Survey, the largest single employer of earth scientists in the United States, is committed to the expansion of its Minority Participation in Earth Science (MPES) Program, which operates within the USGS and with the cooperation of other federal agencies; civic, community, educational, and professional organizations; and industry. MPES is developing a flow of talented young people from all racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds into geology, geophysics, mineral engineering, hydrology, and related sciences.
