Abstract

Career selection and transition into practice remains a significant concern for most residents. With little instruction, life-altering decisions are often made with little more than a leap of faith. The AAO-HNS Section for Residents and Fellows is sponsoring this seminar to provide residents the opportunity to ask experts about the issues that surround career choices and advancement in both academic and private settings. Life after residency is a marathon, not a sprint. The many pearls of wisdom that come from years of experience can inform residents how to create a niche and maximize opportunities to shape their careers. The forum will include 3 panelists who will address the issues of academic and private practice career development and advancement, marketing, and referral strategies, how to stay “academic” in private practice, and contract negotiations in a competitive market.
