Abstract

A new architecture for two-dimensional filters is presented, which is based on the LU matrix decomposition and is characterized by minimum cycle time. The clock cycle time in the proposed structure is determined by one multiplication and three additions, which are the maximum number of arithmetic operations in the critical path, independently of the filter's order. This realization is characterized by all known advantages of decomposition structures (modularity, parallelism, reconfigurability) and may be used in real-time image processing applications.
