Abstract

Due to its advantages of soft switching capability, high voltage conversion ratio and isolation, Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converters are one of the widely preferred topologies in energy storage systems (ESS). An efficient way to control DAB converters considering the minimization of backflow power is Extended Phase Shift (EPS) control. However, the determination of phase-shift ratios in EPS can be a burdensome process considering the growth of search space. In this paper, Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) which are nature-inspired evolutionary algorithms (EA) are applied to calculate the optimum phase-shift ratios for minimum backflow power at EPS control. Consequently, minimum current stresses are calculated according to the optimization performances of EA techniques and the obtained results for an efficient DAB converter design are evaluated comprehensively.
